This is an incredible example of a free offer La Salle University ran for decades, starting all the way back in 1913. They advertised their "Law Library" as...View More
free, but really it was for a free 7-day trial. You try out the library for 7 days. If you like it, the coupon is worth $26 off of the retail price of $75 & you can pay in $3 monthly installments. If you don't like them, La Salle will pay for return shipping. If you thought advertisers weren't clever with their offers in the early 1900s, think again. They use a very impressive offer to bait you (a whole law library for free!), tell you everything is paid for, talk about the big authorities behind it, invoke fear by painting a picture of how you could lose thousands by not investing & present their incredible offer with a bold sense of urgency, stating that there are only 1,000 sets put aside so they need to act now. I'd imagine that if you sent for the offer & received the library, it was likely a big package, which could easily discourage buyers from sending it back. I don't know how much they profited from the deal, but the fact that they offered it for decades means something.
