"Classical Music Sweatshirt" campaign for Rainier. It all started when John Stahl, a 79-year-old marathon walker nicknamed "Old Iron Legs" approached the Seattle-based brewery & asked if they would sponsor his walk from San Francisco to the Seattle World's Fair. Gossage saw an opportunity & created a promotion with the headline "Coach Stahl Wants You To Walk To Seattle". The ad asked men to apply to join Coach Stahl on his journey, all expenses paid. Once they made it to the Seattle World's Fair, they'd receive $1000. The ad generated 700 entries & 3 men were chosen. It ended up being a huge hit and generated a ton of media coverage on the west coast. Check out the ads below to get the full story. The first ad, from February, is the one asking for applications & the second ad is a progress update on their walk with a profile of each walker.
